Different Sources of Energy, Using Energy Responsibly.
Renewable resources are those resources that are not in danger of being used up, while nonrenewable resources are found in fixed amounts and are being used faster than they can be replenished.
What is non-renewable energy? Energy exists freely in nature. Some of them exist infinitely (never run out, called RENEWABLE), the rest have finite amounts (they took millions of years to form, and will run out one day, called NON-RENEWABLE). Non-renewable energy is energy from fossil fuels (coal, crude oil, natural gas) and uranium.Fossil fuels are mainly made up of Carbon.
Activity for KS3 or low ability KS4 students on renewable and non renewable energy sources. Interdependent learning task - battleships questions.
Solar power is a renewable form of energy and solar panels do not produce greenhouse gases. However to create them materials such as silicon are mined and are not renewable, plus they can be expensive and cause environmental damage in the process. Solar panels can be on people’s homes or spread out over a large area such as in fields or in the desert. Mirrors can be used to reflect the sun.
For example, soil, sunlight and water are renewable resources. However, in some circumstances, even water is not renewable easily. Wood is a renewable resource, but it takes time to renew and in some places people use the land for something else. Soil, if it blows away, is not easy to renew. A non-renewable resource is a resource that does not grow.
Advantages of non-renewable energy. The non-renewable source of energy is affordable. For instance diesel and oil. It is easily accessible and more compatible. The non-renewable source of energy is easy to store. Disadvantages of non-renewable energy. Non-renewable energy cannot be replaced once their energy source is used up.
Definition of non-renewable resource: A natural resource such as coal, gas, or oil that, once consumed, cannot be replaced. Most energy resources currently in use are non-renewable while the renewable ones (such as wind and solar power).
